Conroe Schools Reflect Rising Diversity Trends

Data from the 2023 American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates, which were released on December 12 by the United States Census Bureau, demonstrate that the population of Conroe is in the process of becoming more diverse. Significant shifts in the demographics of the Conroe, Montgomery, and Willis Independent School Districts over the past five years have exemplified the dynamic growth of the region.

Currently, the percentage of Black students in Conroe Independent School District (CISD) and Willis Independent School District (WISD) has increased to 8.9% and 8.5%, respectively. The percentage of Asians living in these districts has also increased, with the percentage in CISD increasing from 4.5% to 5.8%, in MISD increasing from 1.6% to 1.8%, and in WISD increasing from 1.5% to 2.4%.

The percentage of people who identify as American Indian or Alaska Native also increased, reaching 1.4%, 1.5%, and 1.7% in the local school districts of CISD, MISD, and WISD, respectively. While this was going on, the Hispanic population in each of the districts experienced growth to 26.6%, 9.3%, and 22.7% respectively.

While the percentage of white residents in CISD and WISD fell to 82.1% and 88.3%, respectively, the percentage of white residents in MISD increased slightly to 93.4%. As a result of the area's consistent expansion and the ever-changing cultural scene, it is anticipated that the total population of Conroe will reach 113,912 in 2024, which is an increase of 5,664 from 2023.
