Conroe Stuns Grand Oaks with Defensive Grit in Must-Win District Showdown

The Conroe Tigers faced challenges but played solid defense to win a key game 45-43 at home against district leader Grand Oaks. After losing 38-48 to the Grizzlies and facing a tough defeat against Oak Ridge, the Tigers needed to prove themselves. They did this with determination and strength.

Head Coach Tigee Rideaux stressed the importance of getting ready and being flexible. "Every game we customize for the team," Rideaux said to The Woodlands Online Sports. Conroe aimed to take advantage of Grand Oaks' protection inside while reducing their chances of scoring from outside.

Grand Oaks moved the ball well to set up open shots. Even though the Grizzlies started strong, they couldn't gain a big lead because they missed chances, which kept Conroe close in the game. The Tigers kept pushing into the paint, with big players Jadyn Ramos and Johnathan Gafford outmuscling Grand Oaks’ bigger but less aggressive defenders.

The strong play inside caused mistakes and threw off Grand Oaks' defense. By halftime, Conroe had erased the deficit, entering the locker room tied at 23-23. Donnavon Johnson scored nine points in the first half, which helped keep the Tigers tied.

Conroe's defense worked well, keeping Grand Oaks' best players—Trae Lewis, Michael Rosario, and Jadyn Murray—from scoring more than nine points in the first half. This strong defense continued into the second half, helping Conroe keep control and win.

This win is an important moment in Conroe’s season, as it shows that they can compete with the top teams in their district.
