Lake Conroe Park to Reopen Under New Management by May 2025

Following its closure in early 2024, Lake Conroe Park is scheduled to reopen by May, thanks to a new lease agreement approved by the San Jacinto River Authority (SJRA) on March 27. Leroy, Joan, and Soraya Herbert, local business owners, will now manage and renovate the park, aiming to turn it into a beach-themed destination.

Leroy Herbert, owner of 1097 Watersports, a boat rental and pirate-themed cruise company on Lake Conroe, expressed that the community has eagerly anticipated the reopening.

“I am eagerly anticipating the moment we can welcome the public inside,” Herbert said. The public's enthusiasm is evident, as our business, located near the park, receives frequent customer inquiries about it."

The Herberts' strategy for rejuvenating the park consists of three phases, with the initial phase anticipated to be finished in 2-3 months.

Phase 1 Enhancements: conducting inspections and cleanup, establishing staffing and administrative office, restoring current facilities, and launching a food truck village.

"Our primary objective is to establish a welcoming environment for families that honors our community," Soraya Herbert stated.

Lake Conroe Park was formerly overseen by a 30-year collaboration involving the SJRA, the Precinct 1 Commissioner’s Office, and the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. The partnership concluded on December 31, 2023, due to increasing costs and concerns regarding liability.

In March 2025, the SJRA invited private and community organizations to submit proposals for managing the park, resulting in the Herberts' selection.

The reopening of Lake Conroe Beach Park is anticipated to enhance local tourism and offer a lively recreational area for both residents and visitors.
