Montgomery County Officials Warn of Scammers Posing as Law Enforcement

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a telephone scam in which con artists pose as law enforcement authorities, including Lieutenant Jason Spencer, to commit fraud. As a result of this concerning pattern, a number of locals have made the error of going to the sheriff's office to pay their bonds and provide their DNA collection after receiving threatening phone calls.

As a result of the statements made by the con artists, Sheriff Spencer said that at least six people showed up at the office under the impression that they were facing imminent criminal charges. Residents were left perplexed and concerned as a result of the callers' insistence that victims instantly transfer money in order to escape severe punishments.

The sheriff's office requests that the general public maintain vigilance and report any suspicious calls. Spencer stated that "these con artists are taking advantage of people's fears." We would like our community to be aware that law enforcement officers who are acting in good faith will never ask for money over the phone.

The authorities are diligently investigating these frauds. They have also highlighted the significance of validating any statements made by individuals over the phone. Should residents receive calls of this nature, they are strongly recommended to hang up and contact the local police enforcement agency directly.

Since the investigation is still ongoing, the authorities are encouraging everyone to stay informed about such scams and share this information with their friends and family to prevent more victims from falling prey to them.
