Montgomery County voters will decide on a $480 million road bond in the May 3 election, marking the first initiative in a decade.
A vote on a $480 million road bond proposal is set for May 3. Montgomery County and LJA Engineering have released the official project list. The first bond plan in ten years would pay for 76 projects all over the county. Each of the four commissioner precincts would get $120 million to fix up roads, repair bridges, and build new areas.
John Robuck, managing partner at BOK Financial, says that the bond initiative is set up so that property taxes don't go up. This is because the county has been able to lower its debt payment over the years. If approved, the projects will include significant road reconstructions, efforts to make roads more expansive, and critical infrastructure studies all over Montgomery County.
Looking into the plan and precincts, Precinct 1 has 13 projects, including fixing up Calvary Road and Cude Cemetery Road roads, making Lone Star Parkway wider, and looking into ways to make Seven Coves Road longer.
Precinct 2 (19 projects): Hardin Store Road, Dobbin Huffsmith Road, Kuykendahl Road, and Woodtrace Boulevard will all be rebuilt from scratch.
These are the 26 projects in Precinct 3: replacing shoulders on Woodlands Parkway and Kuykendahl Road, adding four lanes to Townsen Boulevard, and improving turn lanes at Grand Parkway and Birnham Woods Drive.
In Precinct 4, 18 projects will widen Sorters Road and Ford Road, finish the David Memorial Drive extension, and do technical studies for future road expansions.
People who live in the county can email roadbond25@mctx.org if they have questions about the bond.
Montgomery County commissioners have approved funding for a new night command division within the sheriff’s office, which will improve overnight law enforcement management and efficiency.
