New Conroe ISD Elementary Schools Aim to Ease Overcrowding at Bush, Suchma, and Other Campuses

Conroe ISD is currently in the process of establishing a new zoning plan to address overcrowding and accommodate its expanding student population. This plan will have an impact on six elementary schools and will also populate two newly constructed campuses-Rob Eissler Elementary and Campbell Elementary. The district's $1.9 billion bond referendum, which was approved in November, will provide funding for both campuses, which will accommodate up to 950 students.

Eissler Elementary School

Students from Mitchell Intermediate, Bush, Deretchin, and Buckalew Elementary Schools will attend Rob Eissler Elementary, which is situated on Old Conroe Road.

Chris McCord, the assistant superintendent for operations at Conroe ISD, observed that Bush Elementary, which was constructed in 1996 and has a capacity of 800, will most benefit from the reconfiguration. The campus is currently home to 877 students and six portable structures, and it is unable to accommodate any additional portables as a result of its proximity to nearby churches.

McCord stated, "Our backs are against the wall at Bush." "This rezoning is essential for the reduction of overcrowding."

Campbell Elementary School

Campbell Elementary, situated at 15895 Stonecrest Drive, is intended to alleviate the substantial overcrowding at Suchma Elementary, which is currently functioning at 147% of its capacity with 1,393 students.

The rezoning proposal will result in the transfer of students from Oak Ridge, Suchma, and San Jacinto elementary schools, as well as Grangerland and Vogel intermediate schools, to Campbell Elementary. This modification is anticipated to reduce the pupil population of Suchma to approximately 750.

“This will be a significant relief for Suchma Elementary,” McCord stated, underscoring the district's dedication to alleviating overcrowding in the fastest-growing regions of the district.

Conroe ISD is providing parents with the opportunity to maintain their children's enrollment at their current school. The district's website provides information regarding eligibility requirements and the application procedure.

The community's investment in education infrastructure through the recent bond referendum is reflected in the new zoning plan, which is a component of the district's broader strategy to manage development.
