Texans turned out in full force this past weekend as The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival marked its 20th year with record crowds, perfect weather, and a strong dose of Texas-sized creativity. With over 200 artists, dozens of performances, and a mission to “Make Art Matter,” the festival once again proved why it’s one of the top-ranked art events in the country.
Everything is bigger in Texas, even the love of art. Over the weekend, 20,000 art lovers attended the 20th Annual Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival, making it one of the most popular cultural events in the Lone Star State. The Woodlands Arts Council has hosted the festival for 20 years, and it has become a nationally recognized event that brings artists and people from all over the country to the heart of Montgomery County to celebrate talent.
Over 200 juried artists, nearly 40 live acts, and hands-on art activities for people of all ages made the festival the #1 Best Event in The Woodlands for 14 consecutive years. It was also recently named the #4 Best Art Festival in the U.S. by readers of USA Today. With more than 500 people helping to make the event happen, the weekend also demonstrated the power of a community.
President and CEO of TWAC Jenny Carattini-Wright said, "This anniversary year was a true celebration of Texas talent, heart, and hospitality." "This shows that art is important and grows in our community."
The festival supports programs throughout the year, including student scholarships, microgrants, and public art pieces, in addition to the fun that takes place over the weekend. TWAC has given more than $1.7 million to the local arts scene over the past 20 years.
Artist Taman VanScoy will be at next year's event, which is already planned for April 10–12, 2026. At least until then, The Woodlands Arts Council will continue to support Texas art, one brushstroke, one student, and one masterpiece at a time.
