Union Pacific Railroad is set to conduct maintenance work in South Montgomery County throughout January, resulting in temporary closures of several roadways.
Union Pacific Railroad has planned a number of repair projects for January in South Montgomery County. These will include replacing railroad ties and resurfacing crossings. The work is likely to close roads for a while, which could cause travelers and local businesses to be late.
In a Facebook post, Precinct 3 Commissioner Ritch Wheeler gave a full list of the roads that would be closed:
Jan. 11: Robinson Road and Woodson Road
Jan. 12: Cox Road and Trade Center Parkway
Jan. 13: Tamina Road
Jan. 14: Hwy. 242 (eastbound and westbound)
Jan. 21: FM 1488 (east of I-45)
Jan. 22: Rayford Road Access
Jan. 23: Richards Road and River Plantation Drive
Officials from Union Pacific say that workers will work hard to replace the ties on each road as quickly and safely as possible.
Reps for Union Pacific said, "Our goal is to finish this work as quickly and safely as possible, with as little impact as possible on neighborhoods, commuters, and businesses."
There will be no access to the roads until the work to repair the ties is finished. As new information about the project's schedule comes in, it will be shared.
Union Pacific is replacing almost 600 railroad ties in Montgomery and Harris counties as part of a larger plan. This maintenance job is one part of that plan. People who live or work in the affected areas should plan alternative routes and be ready for possible delays during the planned work.
