After witnessing the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina, Sarah Bartholet Gwin of Montgomery County took action by organizing a relief drive. With strong community support, her initiative has gathered essential supplies for those in need.
This relief effort is being led by Sarah Bartholet Gwin, who is the daughter of Todd Bartholet, the proprietor of Bartholet Home Furnishings in Conroe, Texas. The victims of Hurricane Helene in North Carolina are recipients of this relief effort. The destruction caused by Hurricane Helene prompted Gwin to create the Hurricane Helene Relief Drive on October 5th, with the intention of garnering support through various social media platforms. She gathered and organized materials to assist people who were afflicted, with the support of her family and the community in her immediate vicinity.
Volunteers worked tirelessly to box and prepare donations, which contributed to the rapid pace at which the effort gained momentum. The response from people living in Montgomery County has been tremendous, and contributions have come from people from all walks of life who have contributed. Donations included necessities such as diapers and toiletries, as well as thoughtful presents such as a rag doll from a person who survived Hurricane Katrina and clothing from a young widow.
The frequent deliveries that her family's store receives from North Carolina, which is where eighty percent of their products are manufactured, served as a source of inspiration for Gwin. She reached out to Brett Rudisill, the proprietor of Rudisill Logistics, who assured her that he would deliver the supplies to North Carolina on his trucks. This would ensure that the donations would arrive in a timely manner in the areas that were most severely affected.
"I've seen some of the best of Montgomery County citizens wanting to help fellow Americans," Gwin said as he reflected on the support that he had received. This week will see the shipment of the first consignment, which will include a Texas flag that has been signed by fans.
